World Book Day 2016

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day to promote the wonder and pleasure of reading. We all know that getting children reading is the key to their success at school so World Book Day is an ideal time to promote reading.

All the children dressed up as their favourite book character and as part of the day they shared books with children from the infant school.

Giant Sing Up March 2016

We joined 900 children on Wednesday at The Anvil Theatre Basingstoke in The Giant Sing Up. Prior to the event, we had to learn 8 songs that told the story of The Selfish Giant. Then on the day, we joined in the performance singing all 8 songs. As well as the singing, a local secondary school acted out the story in drama and dance. It was a great day and a fabulous opportunity. The teacher from the school in front of us even turned around and complimented us on the quality of OUR singing. Well done Calmore!

Hi there

So today, the first thing I saw was that the school had a new secretary who looked just like Burglar Bill.  I'm not very good at seeing colours very well, so she told me the stripes were red and white, not black and white.  Then I realised she was really Wally, and the funny thing was, there were lots of Wallys all over the school.  Very confusing!

I had to have a little lie down to think about all this, so I listened to Demon Dentist while I was there, where I heard that Alfie hates going to the dentist.  I really like going to the dentist at the vets - I always get a treat!

Next was Alice in Wonderland reading Horrid Henry Robs the Bank, where Henry wants a Hip Hop Robot Dog like all his friends, but he hasn't got any money.

After that, a footballer read some funny poems from A Purple Poetry Paintbox, and then batgirl read Compton Valance, The Most Powerful Boy in the Universe, where outside school, there was a man in a silver suit and a tiny bowler hat.  Another person in funny clothes.

More Horrid Henry was next, read by the Karate Kid, where Henry got a belated birthday present in Horrid Henry's Underpants and then I heard all about Flat Stanley, and how he got to be flat in the first place, read by yet another  Wally.  Hmmmm.  It really was a weird sort of day today.

Then James Bond read me Harry the Poisonous Centipede, and I found out that Harry's real name was Hxzltl.  I'm glad he changed it to Harry!  Lastly, Spiderman read me Conker, which was all about a dog who got left behind at Cotter's Yard.

What a great day!

Year 4 Viking Launch Day

This week, Year 4 had the opportunity to spend a day in the life of a Viking! They had the chance to take part in activities such as quill writing, brooch making, grinding flour, exploring Viking food and that was all before lunch!

After lunch they had the exciting opportunity to explore Viking toys and role play with the Viking Gods. To finish off the day they had the chance to see what weapons the Vikings used and even to try their hand at a shield wall!
